Jordan Lake Sudbury School is a democratic school for students from kindergarten through high school. The school is based on a philosophy of education pioneered by the Sudbury Valley School in Framingham, MA in 1968.

Our fundamental belief is that all children are curious by nature and the most valuable and profound learning takes place when initiated and pursued by the students in a way that makes the most sense to them. Students of all ages are free to decide for themselves how to spend their days. All learning styles and all types of pursuits are valued here.

The school is structured as a participatory democracy where the students direct their lives, take responsibility for their choices, set priorities, allocate resources and work within a vibrant community. We believe that success in life is determined by a person's character more than a specific body of knowledge. Trust and respect are the keys to a student's success.   With emphasis on total intellectual freedom, interaction between students of all ages, and responsibility for themselves and the operation of the school, JLSS provides students with the best possible preparation for the ever-changing economy of the 21st century.

We have moved!  We are now located at 1200 N Salem Street in Apex.  We are excited about our move into this new space.  It is a great building with lots of outdoor space to play and explore.

Welcome to our School
